Standing as a testament to our belief in farming with integrity and living in harmony with nature.

When Wolfgang and Ragnhild (first-generation Carlbergs) first discovered what they lateron named “Westwind Farm,” they immediately fell in love with the picturesque setting atop “Casto Hill,” the first major elevation arising from the Willamette Valley, where the Willamette River winds its way through Oregon’s “Garden of Eden” South of Oregon City in the Carus community. This unique and exquisite place stood out, having been farmed as a place for Douglas fir trees, cattle, and haymaking. Its valley and coast range views to the South, West, and North were striking, and its pristine landscape, although cleared in many areas, held virgin soil and was enriched only by rainwater, the manure from the grazing Hereford cattle, and sunshine. Wolfgang, a trained blacksmith and artist, and Ragnhild, an artist and teacher, settled here to raise their family, make a living, and pursue their artistic activities as time permitted.

In the late 70s, Chris Carlberg (second generation) returned with his wife, Susanne, from Germany to help take care of his parents’ beloved cattle farm and build their home there, eventually purchasing the farm. Fast forward several years, and, with the help of Chris’s sister Annie Carlberg Camarda and husband Chris Camarda, a plan was underway to plant the initial Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris blocks, now 27 years established. During this time, Chris (Carlberg) returned to college to study viticulture (and later enology), allowing him to pivot from a successful 30-year career in teaching to taking care of the growing vineyard full-time in 2002, the same year as the release of the “first fruits” of Satori Springs Vineyard with the 2001 Christopher Bridge vintage.
Fast forward again (year 2025), and 27 growing seasons later, plus 18 years as our winemaker, Chris has never felt more respect for this land and all that goes into the making of each vintage. It always has been, and continues to be, a true labor of love.
